Why do we charge for our measures?:

Because our craftsman are there to evaluate – not to sell.

We initially charge because these are EXPERT craftsmen whose time and experience have value. They are NOT salespeople. They get paid whether you buy a product from Meade’s or not. You will receive their guaranteed precise measurements and expert recommendations for your home via email soon after their visit.

Often, other companies will send employees only trained in sales or to read a tape measure to do the measurements. Unfortunately, without a trained eye on the existing opening, customers will often receive incorrect measurements, subtle problems will turn into big issues or they purchase a product that will not fit properly. Most often, they will be given advice only to increase the sale, not what is best for the situation. And the employ of these outside sales staffs usually increases the price of the product by 25%.

What to expect if you start with purchasing a Measure Only:

1. Meade’s will contact you within 2 business days of purchase to set up your measure appointment.
2. During the measure appointment, the expert will measure your opening, take pictures, specify handing, and note any issues that might arise during install. They will make recommendations they deem necessary for Meade’s and the homeowner to consider when purchasing a new door or window.
3. Within 2 business days of your measure, you will be emailed your measurements and contacted by Meade’s to discuss options for your project.
4. Once you purchase an installation from Meade’s, your measure purchase is refunded.
5. Your product is ordered, built, installed, and guaranteed to fit!

What to expect if you purchased a Measure/Install package WITH your new door:

1. Even though you have purchased a new door to be ordered or built, Meade’s will pause the order until the measure is completed to guarantee a fit.
2. Meade’s will contact you within 2 business days of purchase to set up your measure appointment.
3. During the measure appointment, the expert will measure your opening, take pictures, specify handing, and note any issues that might arise during install.
4. Within 2 business days of your measure, you will be emailed your measurements and contacted by Meade’s to either confirm that the project is a go, or to offer other solutions found during the measure, i.e. replace with another product or a refund, if the door you purchased will not work with your opening.
5. Then your product is ordered and built and stained (if this add-on has been purchased).
6. When the door is ready for install, Meade’s will reach out and schedule an installation date
7. The install will include:
   • Delivery
   • Installation
   • Standard door handle installation
   • Replacement or installation of interior trim
   • Clean up and haul away of old door
   • Full Scope of Labor for Installation

Please note that it is best practice to have the installer of the door approve the size and specifications you are purchasing. Even if a salesperson works with you in store or virtually, Meade’s cannot be responsible for any measures or builds “fitting” unless we have been on jobsite and you have purchased a measure from Meade’s. We will build to standard measurements or the measurements given for a custom order.

Interior Pre-hung Specifications:

By selecting the pre-hanging option for your interior door slab, you will receive a door hinged, prepped for handle (unless double French door) and assembled in a frame (also called the door “jamb”).

Each pre-hung door unit includes:

• 4-9/16″ wide jambs
• 3 Oil Rubbed Bronze hinges on doors less than 84” tall and 4 ORB Hinges on doors greater than 84” tall
• Pre-drilled door for handle (no drill on either door for doubles)
  • We will pre-drill the door for a handle with 2-3/8”
  • Bore diameter: 2-1/8″
• Jamb will not be prepped for strike plates or bored for plungers. This will need to be done on site by installer.
• NO interior door trim will be included on interior doors
• Double doors are built to be standard ball catch closure. So they are not prepped for handles as dummy handles are standard. Slabs and Jambs are not prepped for ball catch due to those usually being installed during door installation.
• Interior doubles do not include t-astragals unless it is a quoted custom build.

Standard Interior Pre-Hung Measurements:

• Outside Jamb to Outside Jamb Width: Door slab selected width + 1 11/16”
• Outside Jamb to Outside Jamb Height: Door slab selected height + 1 7/8”
• Rough Opening Width: Door slab selected width + 2”
• Rough Opening Height: Door slab selected +2.5”

Other options are considered add-ons and must be quoted separately. Even if the door “beauty shot” is shown with a different glass option, always refer to the glass description for the type of glass that is being priced on the website.

All door glass is tempered and insulated unless specifically stated. Clear glass is the standard glass unless otherwise stated. Low-E glass is an add-on if offered by the manufacturer.

Glass Options and Prices: Please note: Not every glass option is available for every door. When you are working with our sales staff for this custom quote, they will guide you to the options that are available for your door selection. Meade’s has glass samples at our showroom in Tucker, GA and we can also direct you to real customer’s before/after pictures on our social media pages that have used many of these glass styles.

Not finishing and sealing your door according to the manufacturer guidelines will invalidate your warranty.

**** Pro Tip: If you can dunk your door slab in water and not a single millimeter of raw wood would get wet, then it is “adequately” sealed. You have to apply at least 3-5 coats of paint/sealant and on every single surface – all 6 sides of the door: front, back, bottom, top, left side and right side. ****

Factory Finish:

Stain by Meade’s:

Scope of Work:

1. Customer chooses and purchases color of Minwax oil-based wood stain from Sherwin Williams. https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/products/minwax-wood-finish
2. Customer brings stain to Meade’s for a sample on wood.
3. After the color and coats required is noted, the sample is signed by Customer.
4. Customer is required to purchase and bring additional stain to Meade’s if necessary to achieve color desired.
5. After the door is pre-hung, Meade’s will stain the door per manufacturer’s warranty specifications. These can be found on Meade’s website.
6. Once the stain is sanded and cured, Meade’s will apply Helmsman Oil-Based Spar Urethan in Semi-Gloss. If any other gloss is preferred, then the customer must purchase and provide.
7. Remaining stain will be given back to customer for any touch ups needed in years to come.
8. Any part of the door that is not being stained will not be painted by Meade’s. Our services only include staining.
9. Stain and sealing are warrantied for 1 year. AAW warranty conditions still apply. The customer is responsible for maintaining the wood door’s stain and seal every 1 to 3 years dependent on environment.
